"Best Auto" Ripoff in Las Vegas award
goes to: Best Auto, Nellis, Las Vegas, NV 89110
Chaz
Nevada, USA.
Scott (Best Auto) told me I needed a fuel pump, fuel filter, and pump strainer to fix my Corvette. I informed him that I just installed those items new. I asked him how much for him to repair, and he said $410.., which was considerably more than I expected and more than I was led to believe. He originally said $81 for the tow which would be waived if he did the work. I originally authorized only a diagnostic on 12/13/05 (which should not have cost more than 1 hour labor [$75 or so], which should have qualified for waiver of the tow). Now two days later he informs me that it would cost over $250 just for him to return the car to me as is - without having done any work on the car at all.
When Scott telephoned me, I started thinking out loud about how they tricked me into expecting a lower price ($81 instead of the $250+), as I repeated my choices out loud ($250 or let him repair it $410.) , trying to decide which option was better for me. He chastised me for buying the parts from Checker Auto and not from Delco. I concluded it was better to just let him fix it (because only about $170 more), but before I could tell him to go ahead and fix it, he interrupted me, saying that it was my fault if I did not read or understand the authorization I sign. He went into a verbal tirade, abusing me, very rude, before I could even get a word in, finished his monologue by shouting that he did not even want to work on my car, for me to just come get it.
As he finally would let me talk, realizing that he had me over a barrel (I obviously had no way to come get the car, and he already had most of the repair cost billed to me), I tried to explain to him that I was trying to figure out which option was better for me and that I was better off to have him go ahead and fix the car.
First he wanted the repair
paid in advance. Then he mentioned deposit. He said that since
the car was over 20 years old that I must come down and give him a deposit.
I asked him if $200 was ok, he agreed. I told him I would be down with
the cash. You can be sure that I will never do business with this
company again.
